Job Description: Child Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist


Job Type:

Full-Time


Salary

Annual Salary: £125,000 - £160,000


Job Responsibilities

* Provide expert consultation and psychiatric assessment for children and adolescents with mental health issues.
* Conduct comprehensive admission assessments and manage effective treatment plans for all young people on the unit.
* Review referrals and determine appropriateness for admission based on clinical guidelines.
* Conduct risk assessments and regularly review them to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
* Allocate specialist psychological treatments according to individual patient needs.
* Evaluate and assess the physical health of patients to inform overall treatment plans.
* Ensure effective communication and liaison with referring teams and other involved stakeholders.
* Facilitate regular CPA (Care Programme Approach) review meetings to discuss patient progress and coordinate care.
* Act as Responsible Clinician for young people detained under the Mental Health Act, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.


Essential Qualifications

* Must be registered on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with a license to practice (GMC registration).
* Possess a recognized medical degree (e.g., MBBS, MBChB) from a GMC-approved institution.
* Completion of Core Psychiatry Training (CT1–CT3), comprising 3 years of full-time training covering general adult psychiatry and other subspecialties.
* Completion of Higher Specialist Training (ST4–ST6) in a chosen psychiatry subspecialty, leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
* Hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) confirming eligibility for consultant psychiatrist roles.


Desired Experience

* A minimum of 8 years of experience covering all training and practice in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
* Experience in managing CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) eating disorders.
* Proficiency in conducting psychiatric diagnosis and applying the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Strong leadership skills demonstrated through work within multidisciplinary teams.
* Preference for candidates with experience in NHS and private sector roles.
* Candidates ideally local to the hospital site; however, a relocation package is available for those from other regions in the UK or Ireland.


Skills Required

* Experience in conducting risk assessments and ensuring regular updates.
* Expertise in facilitating CPA review meetings.
* Effective management of young patients' treatment plans and collaboration with health care teams.
