Highways Maintenance Operative
We are recruiting a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our NMC SW account in Ayr. This is a full-time permanent position.
Our NMC SW works in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest, managing inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery, winter maintenance and incident response across more than 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures to ensure reliable journeys and high customer care.
Responsibilities
- All aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civil works, litter picking, etc.
- Driving, operating, and maintaining vehicles/plant with general and specialist skills, including vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning.
- Strimming and edging around obstacles, fences, trees, and hard landscaping; general grounds maintenance including clearing leaves, litter, weed control, and vegetation removal.
- Chainsaw operation for small tree felling, pruning, and cutting back overgrown vegetation.
- Winter maintenance operations.
- Ensuring safety of self and others, complying with health and safety legislation and safeguarding the public.
- Keeping records, including drivers’ hours and any required paperwork.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ideally experience in civils, street works, or landscaping.
- Experience with grass cutting machinery such as Scags, Kubota Ride-ons, strimmers.
- PA1 & PA6 weed spraying ticket.
- Chainsaw qualification.
- Desirable: Class 2 HGV licence and CPC card.
