Locum Consultant Thoracic Surgeon

This post is for a Locum Consultant Thoracic Surgeon, working across the geographical areas covered by the Regional Cardiac Centre. The appointee will join 11 Consultant Cardiac, Thoracic and Cardiothoracic colleagues and will participate in a 1:5 cardiac on call rota at Victoria Hospital. A specific aortic on‑call rota 1:4 is under consideration and the successful candidate will take part in this rota.
The successful candidate will join a multi‑professional team based at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Victoria Hospital and be employed by the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Person Specification
Legal Requirements
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion within 6 months of interview date
* Full registration with the GMC
Qualifications and Training
* MB ChB or equivalent
* Minimum of 6 months Cardiothoracic experience
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
* Effective teaching skills
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibility and supervise staff
* Ability to motivate and inspire a multi‑disciplinary team and work sensitively within teams and across organisations
* Involvement and evidence of implementation of service development and managing change in a healthcare setting
* Leadership skills – ability to take responsibility, show leadership and make decisions
* Computer and IT skills
* Educational qualification or working towards.
* Interest and ability in minimal access cardiac surgery
* Awareness of NHS organisation and core values of NHS
* Understanding of the management responsibilities of NHS consultants
* Participation in a management training course
