Job Details
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Paid Overtime + Benefits (enhanced sick pay, buy-back scheme for personal tools and equipment, free workshop access for personal projects)
Location: South East London (SE15)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent (The company will consider contractors / freelancers who want to join their network of skilled wood fabricators)
Working Hours: 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday (plus paid overtime as required)
Company & Role Context
The company is an award-winning bespoke fabrication studio delivering craftsmanship and innovative designs to clients including architects, artists, designers and private clients. The role involves leading delivery of bespoke projects on-site and in the studio, from structural timber to fine joinery.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a team in the studio to fabricate projects in a range of materials, using traditional craft and digital fabrication methodologies.
* Install projects on site (in London and elsewhere in the UK).
* Mitigate risk, maximise efficiency and minimise wastage.
* Work independently to maintain high standards of production output.
* Work confidently from fabrication drawings.
* Apply knowledge of materials and processes relevant to bench joinery and cabinetmaking.
* Apply knowledge of specialist finishes relevant to hard and soft woods, veneers, and other solid surface materials.
* Prepare materials and manage cutting lists.
* Manage consumables and maintenance for equipment in the wood workshop to deliver the best quality finish.
* Work confidently with other machinery, equipment, tools and materials.
* Ensure you are equipped and prepared for work in the studio or on-site, including maintaining a personal tool kit relevant to your role.
Essential
* Previous professional experience as a cabinetmaker and/or site carpenter.
* Experience with structural woodwork and installation.
* Experience working on site in a construction environment.
* Ability to work from fabrication drawings.
* Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail.
* Understanding of material properties and their appropriate fabrication methodologies.
* Experience with machinery, equipment and tools for general fabrication.
* Awareness of health and safety regulations and best practice for compliance.
* Strong verbal, interpersonal and comprehension skills.
* Right to work in the UK without restrictions.
Desirable
* Current CSCS card, or equivalent qualification (desirable).
* Other relevant professional training (First Aid, Fire Safety, PASMA, IPAF etc.) (desirable).
