Strategic Design and Transition Programme – Strategy Policy Specialist

You will be an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist in the Strategic Design and Transition Programme, supporting the assessment of the Independent Water Commission’s recommendations and shaping the future of the EA. Your role will involve:
* Providing high‑quality, balanced, evidence‑based advice to support future thinking around the IWC report recommendations, particularly the recommendation to create a single water regulator.
* Engaging with colleagues across Government, within the EA, and other regulators to ensure alignment of thinking.
* Embracing constructive challenge and diverse thinking in a fast‑moving working environment.
* Adopting a flexible approach and assisting other projects or workstreams within the programme as required.
* Acting as an active member of the Programme team, fostering a high‑performing, agile, and resilient environment under high demand and ambiguity.
Experience/skills required
* Experience working with central government to develop policy, including collaboration with specialists such as economists and scientists.
* Strategic thinking and problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, able to translate complex or ambiguous issues into simple, targeted advice often at short notice.
* Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
The role is based at an EA office; as a national role, the working location is flexible. Some travel, including occasional overnight stays, may be required.
