The post holder will be part of a dynamic and innovative trauma and orthopaedic team, looking to appoint a keen and enthusiastic Consultant Ortho-geriatrician. The post involves working closely with the Trauma team to support fractured neck of femur surgery on site.
The candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team approach alongside medical staff/doctors, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals. Clinical responsibilities include:
1. Seeing unwell adult patients as requested by the orthopaedic team, usually referred by FY1 Doctors.
2. Providing advice on the medical care of patients on the ward.
3. Working with and supervising Speciality Doctors / locum Registrars to ensure patient care meets standards such as the Best Practice Tariff and the National Hip Fracture Database. This includes:
* Ensuring patients are seen by an Orthogeriatrician within 72 hours of admission.
* Completing standardized falls and osteoporosis assessment documents.
* Attending daily multidisciplinary team meetings (currently at 2pm Monday to Friday).
* Collaborating with the Specialist Nurse for Inpatient Osteoporosis for investigations and treatment.
1. Discussing medical problems and end-of-life care with patients' relatives.
2. Communicating patient care information with the multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, trauma coordinators, and therapists.
3. Ensuring GPs are informed of changes to long-term medication and reasons for these changes.
4. There is an outpatient clinic every other Friday afternoon, which may be developed based on the postholder's interests.
