Offer description

Are you looking to make a positive impact on young people's lives?

As of September 2025, we have a rare opportunity available at our very successful school. The Valley School is seeking to appoint a highly effective Family Engagement, DSL and Mental Health Lead. The successful candidate will play an important role in achieving our aspirations of being ‘Outstanding’ in all areas.

The Valley School provides an exciting and challenging learning environment for approximately 190 pupils who need our support because of their learning difficulties, autism, or speech, language, and communication needs. Aged 11-16, these young people need the skills of outstanding practitioners to enable them to make progress, believe in their futures, and become independent and confident members of the community.

As a Family Engagement, DSL and Mental Health Lead, your role is to engage positively with students and support their engagement in learning.

If you want to work hard, give more than you take, explore how an imaginative curriculum can open up life choices and chances, and make a difference to these amazing young people, then this is the school for you. Can you answer “YES” to all of these questions?

* Do you believe that students are at the core of all decision-making?
* Are you hard-working and resilient?
* Are you creative and solution-driven?
* Do you have the skills to build and maintain strong relationships?
* Do you like a challenge?

Please take some time to visit our website – it provides a lot of information about us.

School visits are welcome. Please contact Iona Varol, PA to the Headteacher, at 01438 747274 or by email at iona.varol@thevalley.herts.sch.uk

The school is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure Barring Service. All policies are available on the school website.
