As a Senior Quantity Surveyor at Taylor Woodrow, you will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of civil engineering projects, reporting to a Project or Commercial Manager.
This role requires a strong grasp of contractual, commercial, insurance, and legal matters, alongside the ability to foster client relationships and support effective project delivery. You will play a central role in procurement, cost planning, risk management, and change control processes. In addition to managing your own workload, you will provide guidance and development for junior commercial staff.
Your ability to apply a strategic outlook, drive value engineering, and produce accurate financial reports will be vital to ensuring our projects are commercially successful and aligned with sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all commercial aspects of allocated projects or project sections, ensuring alignment with contract terms and business goals.
* Provide commercial support during tendering, project start-up, and throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.
* Oversee subcontract procurement and administration, including contract preparation, evaluation, and final account settlements.
* Ensure accurate preparation of valuations, applications for payment, and timely invoicing to optimise cash flow.
* Monitor and control project costs and resources, ensuring delivery against financial targets and efficiency benchmarks.
* Manage client and subcontractor change processes, including early identification, assessment, and negotiation of variations.
* Produce timely and robust cost value reconciliations (CVRs), forecasts, and commercial reports for senior management.
* Maintain risk and opportunity registers and contribute to commercial decision-making through strategic insight.
About You
* Experience in a similar senior commercial role within civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
* Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly NEC and/or JCT.
* Proven ability to manage teams and mentor junior commercial staff.
* Advanced understanding of cost control, risk management, and procurement.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and client-facing skills.
