Overview
A leading UK-based organisation is undertaking a major transformation of the technology platforms that underpin critical data, science, and digital services. We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to shape and evolve internal platforms used by engineers, technical specialists, and operational teams.
This role sits within a central Platform Technology function responsible for shared capabilities such as developer tooling, APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure services. The focus is on improving reliability, usability, and scalability—enabling teams across the organisation to deliver faster, safer, and more effectively.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop business cases to support investment in platform enhancements and third-party services
* Own and manage the roadmap and backlog for one or more internal technology platforms
* Collaborate with engineers, architects, and delivery teams to deliver incremental, high-impact improvements
* Understand internal user needs and translate them into clear, outcome-driven priorities
* Define and track measurable service outcomes (e.g. adoption, performance, usability)
* Balance short-term operational reliability with long-term sustainability and compliance
* Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and communicate decisions and trade-offs clearly
* Promote product-led, user-informed ways of working within a complex, legacy environment
Experience & Skills
* Proven experience managing developer platforms, infrastructure products, or cloud-based services (e.g. AWS, Azure)
* Experience working with commercial and third-party service providers
* Strong grasp of Agile and Lean practices within engineering-focused teams
* Deep understanding of user-centred product development, particularly for technical users
* Skilled in outcome-based prioritisation (e.g. impact vs effort, cost of delay)
* Confident engaging with senior technical stakeholders across disciplines
* Comfortable working in complex environments with legacy systems and competing priorities
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical topics
What We’re Looking For
* A product thinker who is passionate about enabling others to deliver value
* Someone who prioritises outcomes over outputs and embraces iterative learning
* A pragmatic approach with a focus on sustainable, well-designed solutions
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to bring clarity to complexity
* A collaborative, curious mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity
Success in the Role
* Delivery of a clear and agreed platform roadmap
* Well-defined and prioritised backlog aligned to strategic goals
* Measurable improvements in platform adoption and usability
* Successful management or renewal of key technology service agreements
* Positive stakeholder feedback across engineering and architecture teams
* Introduction of product practices that improve visibility, flow, or learning
