Overview
Join to apply for the Coastal Engineer/Coastal Project Engineer role at Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST).
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy multi-disciplinary civil engineering team, managing coastal flood and erosion risk on the south coast. Coastal Partners provides a Coastal Risk Management Service to Havant Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Gosport Borough Council, Fareham Borough Council and Chichester District Council that reduces the risks to people and to the built and natural environment from flooding and coastal erosion. This area includes three major harbours of environmental importance and over 246km of coastline. There are several large-scale civil engineering projects in our portfolio.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Coastal Engineer, you will undertake the role of either an NEC Site Supervisor or Project Manager, contributing to protecting communities and shaping the coastal landscape for future generations. You will work across studies, design and construction projects and have the opportunity to be involved in all areas of the team’s work. Specific roles include:
* NEC Site Supervisor: Working within the Major Projects Team, you will monitor construction works, resolve technical issues, undertake tests, inspections and surveys using GPS, total stations, laser scanners and UAVs, maintain daily records, liaise with stakeholders and perform health & safety checks. This role is largely site-based and involves collaboration with the client’s project and contract managers to deliver the construction phase of coastal engineering projects.
* Project Managers / Assistant Project Managers: Lead or support project management during appraisal, design and construction phases, manage programmes, budgets, quality and scope, oversee work packages, report to stakeholders, and devise procurement strategies. PMs may deliver the NEC ECC Project Manager role on construction contracts; APs support PMs and may progress to lead projects.
You will need a degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline and applications are welcome from experienced candidates, graduates, and final-year students, with training provided to support your role as part of an integrated design team. This is a career-graded post with salary depending on experience and qualifications.
