Project Engineer – Navigation Equipment

Location - Bristol, UK

You will report directly to our UK Technical Lead, and you’ll work out of our Filton, Bristol, UK location on a Hybrid work schedule.

The Project Engineer / Project Lead role is very wide ranging and requires a person that can deal with many varied tasks, technical and non-technical, simultaneously and take responsibility for delivering a task or project. It is essentially a technical role but has strong elements of customer interfacing, project management implementation and budgetary control.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership and Coordination: Drive projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring adherence to schedule, cost, and quality. Lead integration, testing, and qualification activities with complex software and hardware.
2. Customer and Supplier Interface: Serve as the primary technical interface with customers and institutions. Manage critical component suppliers and design subcontractors, while reporting project status both internally and externally.
3. Product and System Development: Participate in identifying and defining new inertial and GNSS products. Review product requirements and prepare compliance matrices, coordinating technical design reviews and certification preparations.
4. Business Development and Support: Provide technical support to business development, particularly in engineering aspects of bids and proposals. Highlight risks and opportunities to enhance project outcomes.
5. Team Management and Development: Coordinate team activities to ensure timely delivery and quality output. Engage in recruitment and support continuous training and career development of team members, while managing conflicts efficiently.

Must Have Skills

6. 5+ years of experience in an engineering specialty in the area of precision instrument design and development for defence, aerospace or other high reliability domains.
7. Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or a similar related discipline. In the absence of a degree, significant and relevant experience is required. (Proof of qualifications will be required).
8. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Proven track record of achieving program targets including schedule, quality and cost
9. Experience with product testing, validation and reliability testing. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Ability to drive results and meet project deadlines.

10. Experience working with and the use of inertial sensors. gyroscopes, accelerometers. Experience working with and the use of IMUs, AHRS, Air Data Systems, GPS/GNSS
11. Familiarity with requirements management tools (like IBM Rational DOORS)
