Senior Structural Engineer
Leeds
An employee-owned, director-led engineering Consultancy with offices across the UK is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join its Leeds office. The role would suit an experienced engineer with a strong technical background who is looking to take a central role in the delivery of complex projects while working within a collaborative and supportive team environment. The practice has built its reputation on technical quality, bespoke engineering solutions and close client engagement, with projects benefiting from director involvement throughout their lifecycle.
The position involves the delivery of structural engineering projects across a wide range of sectors, including private residential developments, retail parks, town centre regeneration schemes and major healthcare projects. Work includes temporary, new and historic structures, with involvement in buildings of architectural and heritage significance. The Consultancy is also involved in technically demanding urban regeneration and city centre developments, including commercial and mixed-use schemes on constrained sites where careful coordination and practical engineering judgement are required.
The Senior Structural Engineer will be responsible for managing their own projects, producing and reviewing technical design information such as calculations, sketches, specifications and reports, and ensuring work is delivered in accordance with relevant standards, codes and internal procedures. The role also includes undertaking structural surveys and site inspections, preparing feasibility studies, and providing clear technical advice to clients and project teams.
The successful candidate will work closely with clients, other consultants and internal team members, contributing to the coordination of design information and attending design and site meetings as required. Responsibility will include overseeing the work of intermediate and graduate engineers, providing guidance and support where necessary, and assisting with the day-to-day management of project programmes and budgets on small to medium sized schemes.
The role requires experience in the design of structures using concrete, steelwork, timber and masonry, along with a good understanding of construction methods and detailing. Familiarity with British Standards and Eurocodes, CDM regulations, and the use of structural design software is essential. Experience of working within a BIM and ISO 19650 environment would be beneficial. Exposure to specialist areas such as structural glass design, including applications to building exteriors and interiors, would be advantageous but is not essential.
Candidates should hold an HND or HNC in civil or structural engineering as a minimum and have good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear sketches and technical reports. A practical approach to problem solving, good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team are important for this role. Chartered status or progress towards professional qualification is desirable.
Alongside professional development, the Consultancy places emphasis on flexibility, work-life balance, health and wellbeing, and recognising individual and team contributions. A competitive salary is offered, dependent on experience, together with a considered benefits package that includes flexible working and up to two potential bonus opportunities.
