Are you a performance marketing expert who excels at both high-level strategic planning and hands‑on CMS management? Buckinghamshire New University is looking for a Digital Media Manager to serve as the architect and analytical engine of our digital presence. This lead role is perfect for a self‑starter who is passionate about “all things digital” and ready to take ownership of the university’s performance marketing.

Working within the Brand, Communications and Marketing directorate, you will be a cornerstone of the Digital team. You will lead on the end‑to‑end execution of PPC and paid social strategies, using data-driven insights to optimise the recruitment funnel and ensure a seamless journey from search to application.

In this collaborative role, you will work hand‑in‑hand with the Web Developer and the Marketing and Creative teams to build a seamless search-to-application funnel and ensure every digital touchpoint aligns with BNU’s overarching objectives.

Job Purpose

You will lead on the university's performance marketing, responsible for the end-to-end execution of PPC and paid social strategies. This is a hands-on role where you will directly manage the CMS to build landing pages, optimise conversion paths, and execute SEO strategies to ensure a seamless journey from search to application.

Working closely with the Web Developer, you will also oversee site health and accessibility, while collaborating with the Marketing team to translate their copy and creative assets into high-performing digital campaigns and webpages. You will interrogate data to refine digital activities and execute technical improvements directly within our platforms.


Responsibilities

* Lead on the development of a multi-channel paid media strategy (Google PPC, Meta, TikTok), working in partnership with the Senior Digital Media Officer to ensure high-performance execution and ROI.
* Set and implement A/B testing frameworks for ad copy, creative assets, and bidding strategies to maximise budget efficiency.
* Directly manage and update the CMS to create, test, and optimise high-converting landing pages.
* Lead on the audit and improvement of on-page SEO and technical site health directly within the CMS to support organic growth alongside paid efforts.
* Responsible for the strategic allocation and optimisation of the performance marketing budget.
* Lead on the set up of tracking pixels and Google Tag Manager events to ensure accurate cross-channel attribution.
* Design and maintain performance dashboards (e.g., Looker Studio) to interrogate campaign performance, providing senior management with deep-dive analysis.
* Nurture the professional growth of the Senior Digital Media Officer, providing strategic direction and quality control for their daily management of PPC and paid social campaigns.
* Collaborate with the Marketing and Creative teams to adapt copy and assets into SEO-optimised content and high-performing ad formats.
* Work in partnership with the Web Developer and Creative team to maintain and optimise the University's website for user experience, accessibility, and conversion.
* Keep well-informed of the latest trends and technologies in digital marketing and higher education to continuously improve strategies.
* Show initiative in managing projects and taking the lead in making decisions to advance plans.
* Comply with relevant legislative requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
* Deputise for the Senior Digital Channels Manager when required.


Person Specification


Education, Qualifications & Training

* Graduate with relevant qualification – A
* Professional marketing qualification and/or evidence of continuing professional development – A


Knowledge & Experience

* Proven experience in planning and delivering successful multi-channel campaigns (PPC, Paid Social, SEO) within a complex environment (e.g., Higher Ed) – A/I/T
* Expert-level ability to build dashboards, interpret complex data (Social APIs, Google Ads), and explain cross-channel attribution/interaction – A/I/T
* Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff, with a focus on technical quality control and professional growth – A/I
* Solid understanding of web accessibility (WCAG), GDPR, and project management methodologies – A/I
* Experience using data-driven insights and forecasting to build business cases for budget adjustments and strategic recommendations – A/I


Skills

* Advanced hands-on experience with CMS (Drupal/WordPress), SEO tools (SEMRush/Ahrefs), and GTM/Tracking setup – A/I/T
* Track record of managing high monthly spends, including hands-on bid management, keyword mining, and budget forecasting (ROI/CPA) – A/I
* Expert knowledge of major platforms (Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.) and management tools (Hootsuite/Sprout) for both paid and organic goals – A/I/T
* Excellent written skills with the ability to adapt complex technical data into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders – A/I/T
* A self-starter capable of managing time-sensitive deliverables and prioritising workloads in a high-pressure environment – A/I
