The Court of Protection Team
Our Court of Protection team works with individuals who lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs and require support from others. This may be due to age-related illnesses or accidents. We meet with clients and their families to discuss how we can assist once it becomes clear they need help managing their affairs. Our specialist team supports clients across the UK from our East Anglia offices.
The Role
As a Case Worker, you’ll be a vital part of a collaborative team, supporting clients with diverse needs. You’ll manage your own case portfolio while assisting Deputyship Managers and Senior Deputyship Managers in providing high-quality service.
Your main responsibility will be supporting clients in managing their finances and daily responsibilities. You’ll build trusting relationships with clients, their families, and care professionals. A key aspect of your role is to take a holistic view of each client’s situation to ensure their long-term financial wellbeing, always prioritising their best interests. This includes crisis management and providing practical advice and solutions.
The role involves handling complex and sensitive situations. You may need to communicate difficult decisions to clients or their families. Therefore, confidence, empathy, and professionalism are essential when managing these conversations and emotional responses.
Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive)
* Work under the supervision of Senior Deputyship Managers and Deputyship Managers to ensure effective management of client funds, including maintaining sufficient funds for ongoing needs.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, families, and external professionals such as Case Managers, Social Services, and community care providers.
* Ensure all client files comply with the firm’s policies, including conflict checks, anti-money laundering regulations, and risk and compliance standards. Files should be kept up to date according to Law Society requirements.
* Contribute to a team environment by sharing workloads and delegating tasks to enhance the client experience.
This role may require travel to clients nationwide, with occasional overnight stays. Flexibility in working hours may be needed to meet client needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
* Desirable: Working knowledge of the Court of Protection; full training will be provided.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to engage sensitively with clients who may have mental or physical impairments, both over the phone and in person.
* Confidence, empathy, and professionalism in handling challenging or emotionally charged situations.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing priorities while maintaining high standards.
* Strong problem-solving skills to assess complex situations and identify effective solutions independently or with the team.
* A proactive approach to business development and supporting team activities.
* Commitment to accurate, timely documentation and meeting financial targets according to firm policies.
