Main duties of the job

The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience in the management of Lymphoma and General Haematology. The successful candidate will develop this subspecialty across the health board and working alongside the generalist consultants.

Inpatients - The appointee will participate in an attending and on-call rota for the Haverfordwest site. At the three peripheral sites, the contribution is consultative to the local medical team.

Outpatients - The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week, within Lymphoma and General Haematology. Consideration for other subspecialist workload could be considered, depending on applicant\'s experience to date.

There is a weekly health board wide MDT and opportunities to join other MDTs from all Wales MDTs.

The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

* The appointee is required to have full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice.
* The appointee will contribute to all aspects of the general haematology and haemato-oncology work including participation in departmental meetings and on-call rota.
* 10 Sessions with 1xSPA per week.
* Clinics in other hospital sites will be required (virtual clinics are an option).
* The appointee must be someone who can help develop our rural service to ensure excellent patient care

* 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices) dental practices (including four orthodontic) 97 community pharmacies 43 general ophthalmic practices and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
* Numerous mental health and learning disabilities service

Person Specification

Qualifications

* Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
* Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
* MBBS or equivalent
* FRCPath or equivalent

Desirable

* Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
* On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due within 6 months of interview date
* Or CESR or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration

Clinical Experience

Essential

* Broad based experience clinical haematology
* Knowledge and participation in CPD
* Competence in clinical haematology
* Expertise in clinical haematology

Desirable

* Experience of NHS
* Wider experience, research and training in providing sub specialty service
* Evidence of above average performance
* Additional clinical qualification(s)

Clinical Governance

Essential

* Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice

Desirable

* Knowledge of risk management
* Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal review process

Research

Essential

* Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence so as to improve clinical outcomes

Desirable

* Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication
* Research Degree

Teaching

Essential

* Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors

Desirable

* Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education
* Training the Trainers experience

Management

Essential

* Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS

Desirable

* Evidence of management training
