We are now recruiting a moulding apprentice (science manufacturing technician) to join the CNC manufacturing team on our 2024 Gripple Apprenticeship Scheme, starting in September. Based at our Don Road Works - Innovation Centre site in Sheffield, the apprenticeship will be for a two-year term, with training provided both internally and externally at City of Wolverhampton College in Telford (six individual weeks of block release with accommodation and travel expenses covered) to complete an apprenticeship in Science Manufacturing Technician Standard, Level 3. Reporting to a team leader, you will attain the necessary skills to set and operate a wide variety of injection moulding machines, materials, tooling, lifting and inspection equipment. Duties you will be trained to do will include the following: Installing tooling within established process settings Understanding the quality requirements of various components and have an in-depth understanding of the root cause of defects and how to correct them Understanding how to improve the efficiency and reliability of processes and equipment, including active participation in SMED, TPM, 5s and other lean programs Learning how to optimise injection moulding processes to reduce manufacturing costs, including cycle time reduction, reducing energy consumption, downtime, scrap, and material usage Learning how to service and prevent mould tooling from causing quality related issues Working hours Mon - Thurs 8.00am - 4.00pm and Fri 8.00am - 3.00pm. What do I need to offer? To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must have GCSE Maths and English at Grades C or 4 or above and be: extremely organised, self-motivated and be able to cope well under pressure willing to learn about other machines run within the department able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude. able to work well both independently and as part of a team enthusiastic and pro-active, with a good work ethic, willingness to learn and ability to work on your own initiative numerate and able to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner, with a good standard of written and spoken English able to work with people at all levels To be eligible for a government-funded apprenticeship, you must also have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last three, consecutive years.
