Responsibilities
* Performing psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including geriatric and medically ill Veterans, who have mental illness and psychosocial issues.
* Providing a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, psychotherapy, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
* Ensure practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with current standards, including JCAHO (TJC), CARF, HIPAA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, and regulatory requirements; maintain accurate medical records and pursue mandatory continuing education.
* Order diagnostic tests and consultations, interpret results, and make appropriate treatment decisions.
* Serve as a mental health team leader when applicable, coordinating consults and triage; participate in treatment team meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
* Be available for on-call rotation as Psychiatric Officer of the Day, including rounding on inpatients during weekends and holidays. Virtual coverage may be shared with other psychiatrists.
* Supervise and educate psychiatric residents and medical students as assigned.
* Ensure timely documentation, proper patient check-out procedures, coding, and closing of patient encounters.
* Participate in other committee and administrative assignments as instructed.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
* United States Citizenship or eligible non-citizen status as per VA policy.
* Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved school.
* Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
* Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board eligibility.
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Other Requirements/Notes:
* Board eligibility; per VA qualification standards for specific positions.
* Pass pre-employment background/security checks and urine drug screen as applicable.
* Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959.
* Seasonal influenza vaccination requirement for VA health care personnel.
Preferred Experience: Treating patients with opioid use disorder.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform duties with light lifting/carrying, walking and standing for extended periods, and other physical requirements as described for clinical roles.
Education
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from LCME- or AOA-accredited schools. For foreign medical graduates, ECFMG certification verification may be required as applicable.
