An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join our small but specialist team of Cardiac Physiologists in the Heart Investigations Unit here at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

The post is based at our city centre Children's Hospital, a leading UK specialist paediatric centre, offering expert care to 90,000 children and young people from across the country every year. We are a world leader in some of the most advanced treatments, complex surgical procedures and cutting-edge research and development.

Our Heart Investigations Unit currently provides a full range of cardiac investigations for outpatients, cardiac and non-cardiac inpatients and critical care patients. The successful candidate will take an active role and lead all areas of our General Cardiac Physiology service except Echo. You will work within a well-equipped Cardiac department amongst some of the leading specialists in congenital heart disease and inherited cardiac conditions. We have strong clinical input and support and you will have the ability to work with our medical colleagues to develop your skills and knowledge.

The post is for 37.5 hrs/week, worked over 4 days on an 8am to 6pm working pattern (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday). The post holder is expected to participate in an out of hours on-call rota.

The post holder will provide organisational leadership and clinical and professional supervision of General Cardiac Physiology Services (Except Echo) to the multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will be based at Birmingham Children's Hospital and will ensure continuity of the service through all clinical areas and that all policies, protocols and clinical practices are maintained and adhered to. Develop General Services and create strategy and vision for the future in line with other Paediatric Cardiac Investigation departments in the UK. Manage resources efficiently with delegated financial responsibilities as part of the Trust's standard financial instructions.

The post holder will demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of routine techniques to include ECG, ambulatory ECG and BP recording and interpretation, Exercise Tolerance Testing, Cardiac Rhythm devices implantation and follow up, provision of hemodynamic monitoring during both diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization.
