About the Role
Your role will involve supervising and managing the day-to-day delivery of gas servicing, repairs, breakdowns and installations across the client’s housing stock. You will oversee a team of Gas Operatives and subcontractors, ensuring all work is completed safely, compliantly and to a high standard. The role is focused on ensuring gas appliances and installations are safe for continued use, protecting residents, members of the public, client personnel and Mears employees from potential gas related risks.
Role Responsibilities
1. To monitor and control the work & drive the Health & Safety culture within both the team assigned & the gas team.
2. To monitor progress and completion of works from the Operatives and Subcontractors through the MCM system to achieve the KPI requirements of the Client.
3. Assist your team in delivering a comprehensive gas maintenance and installation service within domestic premises
4. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant regulations, standards, and departmental procedures
5. Hold current domestic ACS certification or equivalent in the required categories of gas work
6. Complete and maintain all paperwork and electronic data records related to the work carried out
7. Confirm job completion and ensure a comprehensive and accurate history is available for audit purposes
8. Maintain records that support quality assurance, health and safety compliance, and invoicing accuracy
9. To work with other gas supervisors & other operational gas team members for the purpose of learning from each other to uplift the knowledge & skills of the team.
10. To monitor engineers existing stock and the collection of materials as and when required to meet works orders, in accordance with standard operating procedures for purchasing and van stock control compliance
11. To carry out informal and formal meetings and training sessions to ensure up to date business and job knowledge, communication, skills & progression are maintained. This includes but is not limited to training, re-training, toolbox talks, 1:1’s, probation reviews etc.
12. To participate in call out cover when required to ensure contract compliance & service user satisfaction for emergency repairs
Key Criteria
13. Experience in the above duties
14. Qualified to City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance
15. Hold valid ACS certification (e.g. CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1)
16. Line management experience
17. Good understanding of electrical safe isolation and basic wiring principles
18. Knowledge of current gas safety legislation and compliance standards
19. Experience working in social housing or local authority environments (preferred)
20. Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused approach
21. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
22. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices
23. Flexible and willing to travel across properties and attend out-of-hours callouts
24. Full UK driving licence
