Job summary
Our client, a leading player in the automotive sector, is currently seeking a Senior Product Inspection Engineer to join their team in Gillingham, UK.
Key skills required for this role
Mechanical inspection; Metrology; quality; microscope, hand gauges
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out dimensional and surface measurement according to design specifications using microscope, hand gauges, contact and optical measurement systems
* Produce detailed inspection reports and communicate technical information effectively with key stakeholders
* Lead inspection method, measurement process development, and continuous quality improvement
* Engage in innovation and lean process development
* Collaborate with colleagues, customers, and suppliers, and research new technologies to improve department capability to meet product development and programme needs
* Supervise junior engineers and students
* Ensure equipment calibration and maintenance
* Ensure EH&S and Quality Management System conformance (IATF 16949)
* Support department targets, budget, performance metrics, and quality standards
Job Requirements:
* Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with significant experience
* Master's degree in metrology or precision engineering discipline
* NPL Dimensional Measurement Certificate - Level 1 & 2 beneficial
* Proven experience in the automotive sector and precision engineering
* Solid fundamental knowledge of dimensional metrology principles and best practices
* Experience with surface finish measurement and using manual and digital microscopes, contact and optical 3D metrology equipment
* Proficiency in data-driven decision making, including design for inspection and statistical analysis
* Applied knowledge of traceability, measurement uncertainty, gauge R&R, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
* Experience with writing measurement programmes and process automation
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Self-starter attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure
* Good understanding of 5S and workplace organisation
