An exciting opportunity has arisen forus to recruit a new Salaried GP to our Practice team. This position has become availabledue to one of our Senior Partners retiring.

About us

We are a high achieving, forward thinking and well organised teaching Practice. The team consists of 8 partners, 6 salaried GPs, an ACP, a Practice Pharmacy Team, 2 Practice Based Physiotherapists, 8 nurses and HCAs and a capable and competent administration support team.

The Practice aims to deliver highquality care to over 17,000 patients, using SystmOne. We work from a purpose-built surgery, hostingan extensive range of extended services. As a training practice, there is anactive undergraduate and post graduate teaching programme in place. We are partof the Rushcliffe PCN and are a high achieving Practice with full QoF and localenhanced service achievements.

Free staff parking is available and access to the NHS pension scheme.

Job responsibilities

Clinicalresponsibilities:

* Inaccordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder willmake him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties includingsurgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visitingpatients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealingwith queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
* Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers withinthe organisation
* Assessingthe health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblems
* Screeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
* Inconsultation with patients and in line with current practice diseasemanagement protocols, developing care plans for health
* Providingcounselling and health education
* Admittingor discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to othercare providers as appropriate
* Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
* Collectingdata for audit purposes
* Compilingand issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoidinghand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
* Prescribingin accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically)whenever this is clinically appropriate
* Ingeneral the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normalduties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primarycare.

Otherresponsibilities within the organisation:

* Awarenessof and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g.prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
* Acommitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based bestpractice
* Contributingto evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
* Contributingto the development of computer-based patient records
* Contributingto the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data
* Attendingtraining and events organised by the practice or other agencies, whereappropriate.

Confidentiality:

* In the course of seeking treatment,patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information inrelation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have theright to expect that staff will respect their privacy and actappropriately
* In the performance of the duties outlinedin this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidentialinformation relating to patients and their carers, practice staff andother healthcare workers. They mayalso have access to information relating to the practice as a businessorganisation. All such information from any source is to be regardedas strictly confidential
* Information relating to patients, carers,colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice mayonly be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practicepolicies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection ofpersonal and sensitive data.

Health & safety:

The post-holder willimplement and lead on a full range of promotion and management their own andothers health and safety and infection control as defined in the practicehealth & safety policy, the practice health & safety manual, and thepractice infection control policy and published procedures. This will include(but will not be limited to):

* Using personal security systems within theworkplace according to practice guidelines
* Awareness of national standards ofinfection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual /professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
* Providing advice on the correct and safemanagement of the specimens process including collection, labelling,handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transportarrangements
* Correct personal use of PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use of PPE by others,advising on appropriate circumstances for use by clinicians, staff andpatients.
* Management of the full range of infectioncontrol procedures in both routine and extraordinary circumstances (e.g.pandemic or individual infectious circumstances)
* Hand hygiene standards for self and others
* Managing directly all incidents ofaccidental exposure
* Management and advice relating toinfection control and clinically based patient care protocols, andimplementation of those protocols across the practice
* Active observation of current workingpractices across the practice in relation to infection control,cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followedand weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues asappropriate to the responsible person
* Identifying the risks involved in workactivities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages thoserisks across clinical and patient process
* Making effective use of training to updateknowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training of othersacross the full range of infection control and patient processes
* Monitoring practice facilities andequipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that proper use ismade of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc, and that these aresufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack offacilities to be escalated as appropriate to the responsible manager
* Safe management of sharps use, storage anddisposal
* Maintenance of own clean working environment
* Using appropriate infection controlprocedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safeway, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action whereneeded or escalation to responsible management
* Actively identifying, reporting, andcorrection of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediatelywhen recognised
* Keeping own work areas and general /patient areas generally clean, sterile, identifying issues and hazards /risks in relation to other work areas within the business, and assumingresponsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanlinessacross the business in consultation (where appropriate) with responsiblemanagers
* Undertaking periodic infection controltraining (minimum twice annually)
* Correct waste and instrument managementincluding handling, segregation, and container use
* Maintenance of sterile environments

* Participationin an annual individual performance review, including takingresponsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/orprofessional development
* Takingresponsibility for own development, learning and performance anddemonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similarwork.

Quality:

The post-holder will strive to maintain qualitywithin the practice, and will:

* Alertother team members to issues of quality and risk
* Assessown performance and take accountability for own actions, either directlyor under supervision
* Contributeto the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activitiesand making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teamsperformance
* Workeffectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs
* Effectivelymanage own time, workload and resources.

The post-holder should recognize the importance of effectivecommunication within the team and will strive to:

* Communicate effectively with other teammembers
* Communicate effectively with patients andcarers
* Recognise peoples needs for alternativemethods of communication and respond accordingly.

The post-holder will:

* Applypractice policies, standards and guidance
* Discusswith other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelineswill affect own work
* Participatein audit where appropriate.
