Senior/Highly Specialist Physiotherapist – Pelvic & Maternal Health

Contract: Band 7, Permanent, Full time (37.5 hours per week).


Role Summary

You will be a senior physiotherapist with highly specialist knowledge and skills, managing a wide range of patients with complex pelvic and maternal conditions, including Chronic Pelvic Pain, Bladder Pain Syndrome and Vaginismus, across inpatient, outpatient, virtual and face‑to‑face settings.


Main Duties

* Manage consultant and GP referrals for a broad patient group and maintain a caseload of acute, chronic and complex conditions.
* Act as an expert clinical resource within the Trust and regionally, providing guidance and support to other physiotherapists and allied health professionals.
* Represent the physiotherapy service in clinical and non‑clinical initiatives, both within and outside the Trust.
* Prioritise, assess and manage patients, using advanced clinical reason and analytical skills to formulate diagnosis and treatment plans, maintaining accurate records as a legally autonomous practitioner.
* Provide clinical, educational, professional and managerial leadership to staff and trainees.
* Participate in planning, development, delivery and evaluation of the physiotherapy service within and beyond the NNUH Trust.
* Deputise for the Physiotherapy Operational Lead / Integrated Therapy Lead / Service Lead as required.


Key Responsibilities

* Lead the physiotherapy management of patients within the Pelvic and Maternal Health service.
* Be the clinical lead physiotherapist responsible for a defined area of work as specified in Appendix 1.
* Provide expert clinical support for management of patients within the Trust and regionally.
* Represent the service in clinical initiatives and collaborations.
* Manage a defined caseload, prioritise care, deliver high‑quality treatment, and maintain professional records.
* Provide leadership, education, professional and managerial guidance to colleagues.
* Lead planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of the physiotherapy service for the Trust and wider community.
* Act as a deputy for senior leads when necessary.
* Support delivery of safe, compassionate healthcare, embodying NNUH values of People‑focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, Excellence, and inclusive culture.
* Maintain high standards of clinical care and be accountable for all work.
* Provide peer support and case review for the team, particularly for complex clinical presentations.
* Communicate effectively with patients, secure informed consent, and work within legal frameworks, including with patients lacking capacity.
* Collect and analyse relevant patient information from imaging systems, investigations and handovers.
* Perform comprehensive specialist assessment, formulate diagnosis and individualized treatment programmes with advanced skills.


Qualifications

* Diploma or degree in Physiotherapy.
* Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (UK).
* Membership of Clinical Interest Groups (CIGs).


Experience

* Extensive post‑qualification experience at senior level in relevant clinical specialty.
* Involvement in service improvement, audit, research and quality improvement.
* Contribution to clinical education and development of less experienced staff, students or assistants.
* Experience supervising students, physiotherapy assistants or physiotherapists.
* Effective role model demonstrating NNUH PRIDE values.
