Portland School is recruiting a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to assist in classroom learning for pupils with SEMH needs. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing school committed to providing exceptional education and support for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMHD).
The school day runs from 8:45 am to 2:15 pm, Monday to Friday, totaling 27.5 hours per week. Portland School specializes in meeting the needs of students facing SEMHD challenges, with highly trained staff in SEMHD teaching and management. Our facilities include sensory spaces and specialized classrooms designed to promote growth and well-being.
We offer both permanent and fixed-term positions. A driving license is desirable as the role may involve working on a 1:1 basis off-site, supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.
Job Purpose
* Support learning activities for SEMH pupils within and outside the classroom under the supervision of a qualified teacher.
* Plan and undertake duties to support pupils who have experienced trauma.
* Evaluate therapeutic activities and provide feedback to teachers.

* Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
Portland School is part of a split-site setup with Trent Vale and Blythe Bridge provisions, supporting around 140 pupils with SEMHD.
