Job summary

Applications are invited for Doctors to work at Higher level (equivalent to StR 3 ) within the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics.

Posts could be based at any UHB site based on service needs.

We provide excellent opportunities for learning and professional development as detailed below, with a named Educational Supervisor who will agree your learning objectives at the commencement of the post.


Main duties of the job

*Provide outpatient and inpatient care to patients under Trauma and Orthopaedics, referred by General Practitioners, the Emergency Department and hospital colleagues.

*Management of emergency admissions when on-call, supporting on call juniors and consulting with consultant on call as appropriate

*Supervising junior doctor and other non-consultant grade medical-staff

*Teaching junior doctors, medical students and non-medical staff as appropriate and in line with the guidance by the Postgraduate Dean and Clinical Tutor and Foundation Training Programme Director

*Conducting patient management in line with the guidelines agreed by the Directorate and the Trust

*Undertaking Audit of his/her work and contributing to appropriate national audits

*Ensuring continued professional development (CPD) and participation in the Trust's PDR process which includes a formal annual appraisal

*Participation in the Trust's Clinical Governance activities.

UHB provides care over 4 hospitals across Birmingham and Solihull and is aligned to the local universities and provide undergraduate education for medical, nursing and allied professions. The posts will provide exposure to the whole range of trauma activity. There are two on call rotas and the hospitals are grouped as Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull (HGS) and Queen Elizabeth (QE). On calls are therefore split as QE only or alternating between Heartlands hospital and Good Hope hospital if working on the HGS rota. We like to rotate between the respective rotas every 6-12 months, so that they get the full breadth of T&O exposure as each site does different activity.

* MRCS or equivalent
* ATLS or European Trauma Course qualification
