Rotational Clinical Pharmacist (Band 6 – 7 progression)
The Trust has an exciting opportunity for a full-time rotational pharmacist to join our pharmacy team. This role provides rotational clinical pharmacy experience across various specialties within the Trust, and develops non-clinical skills. Newly qualified or recently registered pharmacists will start as a band 6, progressing to a band 7 rotational role once they have completed a planned advancement pathway; established pharmacists with relevant experience may commence at band 7.
Job summary
You will work in a direct, patient-facing role ensuring the safe and appropriate use of medicines across the Trust. Through the rotation plan you will be exposed to, and work within, a number of clinical areas including Medical wards, Surgical wards, Admissions wards, Medicines Information, Aseptic Production, Palliative care, Antimicrobial stewardship, and Inpatient and outpatient dispensary. The department operates an extended hours, seven day pharmacy service on a rostered basis, and provides an on-call service out of hours. We use a fully integrated electronic prescribing and medication record system known as e-Care.
Main duties
* The post-holder will develop proficiency in rotational areas and support development of the specialist clinical pharmacy service to wards within their rotation, ensuring the safe, clinical and cost-effective use of medicines and resources.
* The post-holder will provide a specialised level of pharmaceutical care to patients and will support other healthcare staff in the safe and appropriate use of medicines.
* The post-holder will be a source of specialised advice within their clinical area and participate in multidisciplinary and governance meetings.
* The post-holder will support the Lead Pharmacist for Education & Training in delivering training to pharmacists and foundation trainee pharmacists within their area of clinical specialism and must undertake clinical supervision, mentoring and ward-based assessments of junior pharmacists, medicines management technicians and foundation trainee pharmacists.
Person specification
Education & Qualification
* Essential: M.Pharm/B Pharm/BSc Pharmacy; Registered with the GPhC.
* Desirable: Post graduate qualification in clinical Pharmacy or nearing completion (Band 7 only); Independent Prescribing Qualification (Band 7 only); Membership of RPSGB.
Experience & Knowledge
* Essential: Post-registration hospital experience (Band 7 only); experience of providing a clinical pharmacy service to patients in a range of specialties; experience of medicines management at the bedside; experience in delivering medicines education & training and mentorship; evidence of on-going revalidation with the GPhC; knowledge of hospital pharmacy computer systems.
* Desirable: Experience contributing to clinical governance; managing or supervising staff; policy/guideline development; change management; clinical ward experience; patient counselling; out-of-hours pharmacy service; therapeutic drug monitoring; ability to travel to all rural locations.

* Essential: Effective communication with a wide range of healthcare professionals and patients; ability to provide specialised advice on medicines; time management and prioritisation; clinical reasoning; prescription review of complex medication regimes; applying evidence-based medicine; attention to detail; computer proficiency; professional conduct; teamwork; ability to work independently; flexibility with hours.
