AP Pavers is the UK's leading asphalt paver hire company, supplying specialist paving equipment and expert operators to major infrastructure and surfacing projects nationwide. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a proactive and practical Health & Safety Co-Ordinator to support our operations on a part-time, flexible basis.
This role offers excellent flexibility and would suit an experienced H&S professional seeking reduced hours, or someone looking to grow their experience within the construction/plant sector.
The Role
You will support the business in maintaining strong health and safety standards across our sites, yard, workshop, and office environments, ensuring compliance with UK legislation while promoting a positive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
· Health & Safety systems and compliance:
1. Act as the internal HSE lead and main contact for external HSE consultant
2. Maintain all company H&S policies and records
3. Maintain training, competence and certification records
4. Manage sub-contractor H&S approvals, insurances and competence checks
· Project Health & Safety documentation:
1. Produce and review project-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
2. Develop and maintain standard RAMS templates for common scopes of work
3. Liaise with our engineers to understand machine-specific risks
4. Review sub-contractor RAMS and integrate with company documentation
5. Respond to client Health & Safety queries, portals and pre-start documentation requests
· Proactive risk management:
1. Monitor trends in incidents, near-misses or client feedback
2. Coordinate incident and near-miss reporting where required
· Coordination with external Health & Safety consultant:
1. Implement actions advised by external Health & Safety consultant
2. Prepare information and evidence in advance of reviews/audits
3. Escalate complex or high-risk issues appropriately
4. Ensure external advice is embedded into day-to-day practice
· Authority and reporting:
1. Report directly to Company Directors
2. Authority to challenge unsafe practices, request additional controls or clarification, and escalate concerns where deemed appropriate
About You
We are looking for someone who is practical, organised, and confident working both independently and within a team environment.
Essential:
· Experience in a Health & Safety role
· IOSH qualification as a minimum, NEBOSH preferred
· Good working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and familiarity with ISO frameworks
· Strong communication skills
· Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule
