Clinical Fellow in Clinical Genetics with a special interest in Rare Diseases and/or Cancer
The North West Thames Regional Genetics Service (NWTRGS) is a Clinical Genetics service which offers genetic counselling, genetic diagnosis and ongoing management recommendations to individuals and families living in the region (North West London, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire). The clinical genetics team is comprised of a group of experienced clinicians (10 (8.6 WTE) Consultants, 14 Genetic Counsellors with a wide range of specialist interests, a number of trainees, and Genomic Associates). The service also offers multidisciplinary clinics with colleagues at Imperial Hospital Healthcare Trust and other sites. Clinical Genetics falls under the Division of Integrated Clinical Services.
Responsibilities
Main duties of the job
* Applications for a Clinical Fellow in Clinical Genetics in Rare Diseases and/or Cancer are welcome.
* The clinical fellow would need to show some flexibility in accordance with the demands of the service and be able to provide both face-to-face, virtual, and telephone consultations. There may need to be a degree of flexibility on the working days in the week. Some travel to peripheral clinics will probably also be required.
* It would be possible for the clinical fellow to indicate an interest in certain groups of conditions, which may then be channelled to the clinical fellow's clinics. The clinical fellow would be encouraged to participate in audit and the departmental clinical governance.

Job description
The clinical fellow will be required to provide Clinical Genetics services for both children and adults in NWTRGS. This will include running rare disease clinics, prenatal work, and may also include running cancer genetics clinics. This would involve evaluating, diagnosing and managing individuals and families referred to the NWTRG service. This would include arranging the appropriate investigations and managing the results in a timely manner, liaising with the Clinical Scientists in the Genomic Laboratory Hubs, and making the appropriate referrals. There will also be a requirement to attend relevant MDTs.

Qualifications
* Essential: MRCP Qualification
* Desirable: Teaching MD, PhD or equivalent
Registration
* Essential: GMC registered Medical Practitioner
* Desirable: GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of CCT
Knowledge & Expertise
* Essential: Broad based training or interest in Clinical Genetics and its subspecialties
* Broad based general professional training in general medicine
* Professional behaviour and probity
* Good working relationships and communication with patients
* Delivery of good clinical care and effective time management in an independent manner
* Desirable: NHS experience within the last 3 years
Teaching
* Desirable: MD or PhD
* Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
* Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
Management & Audit
* Essential: Good communication skills and understanding of the sensitivities when dealing with pregnant patients
* Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications
