Compliance Policy & SOP Writer- Financial Crime/Sanctions (KYC/AML)

We are currently looking for experienced Policy & Procedure Writer with a background in Financial Crime and Sanctions to support the creation, review, and simplification of operational documentation. The role will focus on translating complex regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements into clear, practical, and user-friendly Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that can be applied consistently across the business.
You will collaborate with Sanctions, AML, KYC, and Financial Crime SMEs to ensure policies and procedures are aligned to regulatory obligations, industry best practice, and internal governance standards.
The role:
* Develop, review, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and process documentation across Sanctions, AML, KYC, and wider Financial Crime functions.
* Translate complex regulatory and legal requirements into plain English, ensuring documents are clear, consistent, and easily understood by operational teams.
* Partner with Sanctions and Financial Crime subject matter experts to capture requirements accurately and reflect them in documentation.
* Ensure procedures are fit for purpose, practical to implement, and aligned with internal control frameworks.
* Maintain version control and ensure documentation reflects the latest regulatory updates (FCA, PRA, OFAC, EU Sanctions, FATF, etc.).
* Work with Training, Change, and Operational teams to embed updated SOPs effectively across the business.
* Conduct gap analysis between existing documentation and regulatory/operational requirements.
* Provide recommendations for process improvements and standardisation where procedures are inconsistent.
Key Skills and Experience:
To succeed in this role you will need:
* Strong experience in policy, procedure, or SOP writing within a Financial Crime / Compliance / Risk / Sanctions function.
* Proven ability to translate complex regulatory/technical requirements into simple, clear, and actionable documentation.
* Understanding of sanctions compliance (e.g. OFAC, UK HMT, EU Sanctions) and/or AML/KYC frameworks.
* Background working in Banking, Financial Services, or Consulting.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to draft to a high standard in plain English.
* Experience engaging with SMEs, senior stakeholders, and operational teams to capture requirements and build consensus.
* Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (FCA, PRA, FATF, JMLSG) is desirable.
* Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple documents/projects simultaneously.
