Overview

Widener University invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor of Musicology. This is a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Teaching position beginning in Fall 2026. The position reports to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. We welcome applicants from all areas of specialization with broad expertise, including those who can expand course offerings with teaching experience extending beyond European traditions (both in culture/geographic region and genre).

We seek candidates who can promote an environment of inclusive excellence through teaching, scholarship, and service activities. Review of application materials will begin November 21, 2025. Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

* Teach introductory survey courses from a global perspective that serve both majors and non-majors.
* Teach upper-division musicology courses for juniors and seniors that align with the faculty member’s training and research expertise.
* Potential to teach the University introductory general education course as an interdisciplinary seminar.
* Maintain regular weekly office hours to provide academic support and guidance to students enrolled in assigned courses.

Departmental Engagement:

* Participate in faculty meetings focused on departmental operations and planning, faculty development, including pedagogical strategies and student support initiatives.
* Contributions in research and committee service, alongside demonstrated teaching excellence, can support promotion to higher ranks (Associate or Full Professor of Teaching).


Secondary Duties

* Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed to support departmental needs and align with the mission of the Department of Art and Music, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the University.


Minimum Qualifications

(education/training and experience required)

Required:

* PhD in Musicology or terminal degree in related field. ABD candidates with a degree conferred before July 2026 will be considered.
* Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate students in Musicology.
* Demonstrated commitment to dynamic undergraduate education aligned with innovations in the discipline.
* Experience teaching across a range of musical cultures and traditions.
* Commitment to fostering an environment in which faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds can thrive.

Preferred:

* PhD in Musicology or terminal degree in related field.

* Must be available for in-person instruction.
