Rehabilitation Assistant – Stroke Unit

Job Responsibilities
* Assist registered therapists in delivering rehabilitation care and support discharges from the hospital.
* Work directly with patients to carry out treatment programmes as directed by therapists and report back.
* Assist therapists in delivering interventions with patients.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, attend handovers and feed information in and out of the therapy team.
* Demonstrate excellent communication with patients, their families and the multidisciplinary team.
* Motivate and encourage patients in their therapy, demonstrating an empathetic nature.
* Perform administrative tasks, manage equipment, write notes, collect data for audit and use good IT skills.

Qualifications
* Evidence of personal development
* Literacy and good written skills
Experience
* Previous work in a hospital setting or similar
* Experience working independently with minimal support
* Administrative skills and knowledge
* Recent working within an MDT
* Experience dealing with challenging behaviour
* Previous experience working with orthopaedic patients
* Previous experience working in or with physiotherapy or occupational therapy teams
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Motivated and able to use own initiative
* Ability to complete tasks and demonstrate good organisational skills
* Ability to work without supervision but aware of scope of practice
* Work flexibly within defined role
* Ability to empathise with patients
* Ability to work under pressure
* Awareness of boundaries of the assistant role
* Ability to give feedback to and liaise with a wide range of individuals
* Demonstrate good problem solving skills
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the role of the therapy team
* Willingness to gain further knowledge and skills in orthopaedics/surgery
Other
* Ability to travel cross-site
* Flexible to meet service delivery needs
* Car driver/owner
