Job Title: Events Manager (Freelance, 12-month Fixed-Term Contract)
Location: Remote, with travel across Scotland for events
Hours: 3 hours/week (confirmed quarterly)
Pay: £18/hour

Role Overview
The BIT Collective is seeking a proactive freelance Events Manager to lead our 2025–2026 events programme, including panels, the BIT on Tour initiative, and monthly community meet-ups. You'll work closely with a small team of freelancers and board members to plan and deliver inclusive events that reflect our mission of promoting equity, diversity, and community in Scotland’s folk and traditional arts. This role involves working with partners and may include co-delivering events. You’ll also mentor the Online Events Coordinator, ensuring our in-person and online programmes are aligned and mutually supportive. We welcome applicants with experience in event planning or coordination across arts, community, education, activism, or similar fields.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver four in-person events across Scotland
- Coordinate and host monthly community meetups
- Lead BIT on Tour delivery at festivals and sector events
- Co-deliver events with external partners where appropriate
- Support and mentor the Online Events Coordinator
- Oversee event logistics: scheduling, budgeting, liaising with venues and suppliers
- Ensure events meet accessibility, safety, and safeguarding standards
- Work within budget, exploring partnerships and in-kind support
- Embed accessibility and inclusivity throughout all planning and delivery
- Shape content with the board and freelancers to reflect our values
- Gather and report feedback from attendees and partners
- Contribute ideas for future events based on community needs
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Comms Officer on event promotion
Skills & Attributes
- Event planning experience (arts, music, education, etc.)
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Commitment to EDI and community empowerment
- Familiar with tools like Google Workspace, Discord, and video platforms
- Aware of safeguarding and event safety standards
- Creative, resourceful, and budget-conscious
- Willing to travel within Scotland (expenses covered)
- Knowledge of the traditional music sector is a plus
