Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine – 6 months

The closing date is 13 May 2026

Applications are invited to apply for the post of Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Bradford Teaching Hospitals. We are seeking a consultant with drive, commitment and enthusiasm who will bring a consistent focus to high performance and quality of care, working collaboratively with colleagues and providing clinical leadership to the wider team.

This 10PA post in the respiratory service to cover the 6 months. It includes outpatient work, both in general and specialist respiratory services, and inpatient work on a “Consultant of the Week” rota.

Main duties of the job

This 6‑month locum post has been created to support the respiratory service through extended waiting list recovery due to a significant backlog.

The appointee will work alongside the existing team to provide comprehensive service provision.

Duties will involve delivery of outpatient clinics and service development. Additionally the appointee will provide cover for the dedicated ward by delivering ward rounds and providing specialist advice to other areas of Bradford Royal Infirmary, and may contribute to the general medical service.

The appointee will be expected to participate in the student teaching rota, administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, participate in the running of the department in collaboration with consultant colleagues, communicate with local practitioners, supporting nursing and other AHP members of the team.

About us

Our People Charter outlines the behaviours we can expect from one another and what you can expect from Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust:

* We are one team

We’re keen to meet people who share these values and are passionate about delivering the highest quality of care to our patients.

Job responsibilities

The job plan will therefore be significantly flexible to meet the needs of the service and may include TB, general clinics, pleural procedures and EBUS.

The job plan listed below is simply indicative of a 10 PA job plan and the timing of the sessions would alter significantly as will be discussed with candidates applying and we would attempt to be flexible on the days and design to meet the applicants and our services needs in this time. As a minimum it would involve a clinical commitment of 3 clinics a week and also procedure lists. The successful post holder will also contribute to our on‑call work demand if needed. The appointee will be expected to take an active interest in clinical governance, maintaining medical excellence and management and service development. Clinical audit is a mandatory requirement within the Trust and the appointee will be expected to attend and participate in audit and clinical governance. It is expected that the appointee will make use of opportunities for continuing medical education on a regular basis in the form of local, regional, national and international clinical meetings. The appointee will be encouraged to take part in the administration of CME and to accrue the number of CME credits determined by the Royal College of Physicians. There is a requirement to participate in the annual consultant appraisal programme.

The appointee will have the opportunity to develop research and currently we have a research nurse working on a number of projects. We have strong links with the Bradford Institute for Health Research and the Born in Bradford research project.
