Outreach Intern Job Description
The Community Outreach Internship is a great opportunity for someone looking to enter the environmental/ conservation sector and build experience in community engagement, volunteer management, and outdoor education.
Key responsibilities:
* Helping to plan, promote, set up, and deliver community events e.g., Friends of Denmarkfield work parties, visits from third sector organisations, open days
* Helping to plan and deliver environmental education sessions, both onsite and in schools
* Helping to manage the community allotments and orchards
Additional responsibilities:
* Social media content creation
* Support to create communications including blog, newsletter, and print media
* Helping to manage website and Eventbrite
* Support the team with delivering grant-funded projects, rewilding interventions, and site maintenance
Through this role, the post-holder will really get to know the site and the wildlife here, learning about rewilding in general and the principles that underpin the Denmarkfield approach. In time, they will be able to confidently speak about this, answer questions, and lead sessions. It would therefore be a good role for someone who is looking to find their voice as an environmental educator or volunteer coordinator.
As a small and dynamic team, we work across different elements of the project and this means getting involved with practical tasks on the site. In the coming months this might include: managing conservation cattle, grass cutting/strimming, and replacing tree guards. There are also opportunities to get involved in ecological monitoring, such as the weekly bee and butterfly survey, allowing the post-holder to build their identification skills and knowledge of different habitats.
This role is not suitable for hybrid or home working, and so it is essential that the candidate is living in the area and able to travel to the Denmarkfield site. This is an entry level role that was created to act as a stepping stone for those seeking careers in the environmental sector and a way of creating opportunities for local people who can grow in the role. It is therefore a great opportunity for someone looking to gain skills and experience that are foundational for a career in this sector, within a supportive team environment.
How to Apply:
Please send your CV (no more than one page) and a cover letter (no more than 400 words) to Izzy Jones, Community Outreach Officer: by 5pm Wednesday 18th February. Please include 'Outreach Intern' and your full name in the email subject. Interviews are scheduled for the 26th and 27th February 2026.
