Job Description:
Role Purpose
To protect the health, safety, and welfare of residents, businesses, visitors, and employees in the borough by enforcing food hygiene, food standards, infectious diseases, and health and safety standards in commercial premises and work activities. To ensure consumer protection through enforcement of food hygiene and standards, including allergens, in various premises.
Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality, timely, and accurate professional advice and guidance to customers, colleagues, the public, elected officials, senior managers, and other professionals in a clear and understandable manner.
* Deliver services in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, policies, local systems, and professional standards. This includes conducting inspections, audits, investigations, sampling, evidence gathering, test purchases, legal case preparation, and reporting.
* Handle evidence, records, and data responsibly, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and compliance with data protection requirements.
* Prepare legal cases and evidence for court or statutory hearings.
* Conduct investigations and enforcement work following statutory legal processes and codes of practice, such as PACE.
* Appear and give evidence in court, tribunals, or hearings as a witness.
Requirements
* Work independently from various locations and times, contributing to team business plans.
* Report workplace concerns promptly according to council policies.
* Manage workload effectively to maintain personal and team wellbeing, including booking leave and recording hours.
* Process team correspondence and inquiries promptly.
* Identify opportunities for external funding or income streams creatively and commercially.
* Knowledge or experience of local authority governance and processes.
Qualifications
* BSc in Environmental Health or similar, EHRB Registered.
* Regulatory or vocational qualifications, e.g., Lead Assessor.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping technical knowledge current.
