Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Advanced Practitioner to join the hydrocephalus team. This is a 0.8 FTE maternity leave cover over a period of 1 year, flexibly working Monday to Friday.

You will be a team player with a passion for supporting your colleagues and wider team. The role will require the utmost organisational and time management skills, as well as flexibility to the daily demands of the role.


Main duties of the job

This role involves working closely within an established hydrocephalus service specialising in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus amongst other CSF disorders. You will be working within inpatient and outpatient settings at Southmead Hospital. This requires supporting the neurosciences multidisciplinary team with clinical duties including (but not limited to) daily patient reviews comprising of physical examination, requesting and analysing diagnostic tests, performing patient investigations and making appropriate referrals. You will be confident in taking a clear history from patients via the hydrocephalus advice line and be able to provide safe and appropriate guidance. You will require strong organisational and administrative skills and be confident communicating with external services, including primary care and other specialist clinicians to ensure optimisation of the patients. Ideally, we would like you to have neurosurgical experience, but this is not wholly necessary as training on the job can be provided. You will be well supported by the Advanced Clinical Practice team.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

If you possess the relevant qualifications, you will be required to lead pre-operative anaesthetic assessments for a patient cohort with complex needs. Ideally, you will have attained MSc modules in Physical Assessment and Clinical Reasoning (PACR), Pathophysiology & Diagnostic Reasoning for Advanced Practice (PADRAP) and Non-Medical Prescribing.

The aim will be to provide the best care as you guide the patient through their elective pre and post-operative surgical journey, fostering a culture of excellence within clinical practice with the purpose of providing an outstanding patient experience.

Education/training

Essential criteria

* Degree or diploma in Nursing or Allied Health Profession, registered with professional body (NMC / HCPC)
* Established assessment and clinical reasoning skills with understanding of working within scope of practice
* Experience of working as part of a clinical multidisciplinary team
* Ability to problem solve and work to varying priorities
* Ability to teach and advise professional staff/ patients/carers

Desirable criteria

* PACR, PADRAP and Non-Medical Prescribing modules
* MSc Advanced Practice
* Extensive experience of working in Neurosciences with experience of caring for Neurosurgical patients
* Extensive experience and knowledge in relation to the CSF pathway, treatments and surgical procedures for the management of Hydrocephalus patients
* To be able to autonomously undertake clinical skills associated with an Enhanced Practice role
