Community Adult Consultant Psychiatrist The closing date is 24 May 2026.
Position Overview This post is for a community adult consultant psychiatrist position in the Redbridge Mental Wellness West Team, based at Mellmead House, 4 Orchard Close, Rodney Road, Wanstead, Redbridge, E11 2DH. The role is a substantive, part‑time post (5 Programmed Activities) with direct clinical contact and supporting professional activities. It will support the team caseload in a rapidly evolving service environment.
Main duties and responsibilities The postholder will support the team, department and organisation to follow the Trust’s values in day‑to‑day work, provide senior medical support, and supervise clinical staff. Key responsibilities include:
Organise and prioritise own and others’ workload in day‑to‑day allocation of work.
Maintain knowledge of Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
Ensure effective risk management at clinical and team level.
Act as clinical supervisor to doctors in the team, providing education and facilitating development.
Support continued professional development and a culture of lifelong learning.
Provide guidance and supervision to the multidisciplinary team.
Work directly with adult patients, their families, and liaise with external partners such as Redbridge University Hospital Trust, NELFT Older Adult Home Treatment Team, inpatient and community‑based colleagues.
Participate in on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours and weekends, covering adults and older adults with mental health problems.
Engage with trainees and provide clinical supervision for the two trainees in the West team.
Oversight of year‑4 medical students and professional development opportunities for Specialty Doctors.
On‑call Responsibilities The postholder will be part of the senior psychiatrist on‑call rota (1:50 rota) with a 3% Category A salary supplement. A daytime Section 136 rota (9 am–5 pm) will also be covered, approximately once every 3 months.
Qualifications
Inclusion in or eligibility for inclusion in the Specialist Register for Psychiatry or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
Approved Clinician status or eligibility for it.
Inclusion in the specialist register for Old Age Psychiatry specifically.
Experience
Extensive experience managing a broad range of mental disorders in older adults.
Experience in managing patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Experience working with interpreters and translators.
