Position: Full-time Teaching Assistant (Specialist SEND)
Location: Birtley / Tyne & Wear (candidate must have driver and willingness to travel)
Hours: 37 hours per week, term time plus inset days
Start date: ASAP
About the setting
A lively and supportive specialist setting for children aged 2-11 with complex needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound & multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).
Role overview
You will provide full-time support across the setting, working with pupils who have a range of needs. The role combines classroom support, personal care, communication support and sensory interventions to promote inclusion and learning.
Key responsibilities
 1. Support pupils with ASC, SLD or PMLD in class, small groups and therapy sessions.
 2. Implement communication systems (, PECS), visual timetables and sensory strategies.
 3. Assist with personal care and mobility where required.
 4. Contribute to planning, assessment and multi-disciplinary working.
 5. Promote inclusion, independence and dignity for all pupils.
Person specification
 6. Experience working with pupils with ASC, SLD or PMLD preferred.
 7. Excellent communication, patience, resilience and observational skills.
 8. Must hold a full driving licence and have own transport to travel between sites.
 9. Enhanced DBS (child & adult) or willingness to obtain.
