Job Overview
West Yorkshire Archive Service (WYAS) is recruiting an archivist for a full‑time post, to be based at West Yorkshire History Centre (WYHC), Wakefield. The venue is purpose‑built and offers state‑of‑the‑art visitor, learning, collections and conservation facilities.
Responsibilities
* Run a public searchroom and answer enquiries.
* Manage a small team of archive assistants and volunteers.
* Catalogue and manage collections.
* Lead audience engagement activities.
* Support local authority collections and local history initiatives.
Qualifications
* Postgraduate or masters qualification in Archives and Records Management.
* Experience in a local authority archive service, especially public‐facing searchroom work and staff management.
* Knowledge of local authority collections and local history.
* Knowledge of archival cataloguing standards and ICT systems (preferably CALM).
Other Requirements
* Physical fitness to meet the role’s requirements.
* Willingness to travel to other WYAS service points.
* Availability for some weekend and evening work.
* Strong organisational and leadership skills.
Working Hours
37 hours per week. Normal pattern: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work.
