Mechanical Engineer -| Port Glasgow | £45,000 - £50,000 + BonusMRD Recruitment is delighted to be working with a leading global manufacturing business to recruit a Mechanical Engineer. This is a permanent, site-based role located in Port Glasgow, reporting to the Site Engineering Lead.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation offering structured training and long-term development. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving critical mechanical infrastructure and services across a complex manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support day-to-day operation and reliability of a wide range of mechanical building services, including ventilation, air conditioning, steam, compressed air, and pumped water systems
* Oversee plant condition assessments and propose technical solutions to improve or replace systems
* Manage and contribute to small-to-medium installation, upgrade, and commissioning projects
* Interpret and maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation, and specifications
* Assist in the ongoing upkeep of site schematics and layout drawings, ideally using AutoCAD
* Ensure mechanical systems comply with relevant HSE standards, legislation, and best practices
* Work closely with internal stakeholders and external contractors to deliver reliable support services
* Identify and support opportunities for energy saving and optimisation across site systems
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
* Working knowledge of systems such as HVAC, ventilation/extract systems, compressed air, and steam
* Comfortable reading and understanding technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
* Ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects, and work both independently and in a team
* Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
* Some knowledge of AutoCAD is highly desirable
Desirable (but not essential):
* Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
* Awareness of relevant legislation (e.g. lifting equipment, pressure systems, L8)
* Understanding of building management systems (BMS)
* Familiarity with energy monitoring techniques and sustainable engineering practices
* Experience writing scopes of work, reviewing contractor bids, and managing external vendors
