Managing Director
Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire
Salary: £125,000 base + bonus + 25% pension + car allowance + benefits
Robert Half are recruiting a Managing Director role to join a long‑established manufacturing and distribution business based in Halifax.
This appointment represents a rare opportunity to take full executive responsibility for a well‑established manufacturing SME with strong heritage and future growth potential.
The Role
Reporting to the Chairman and Board of Trustees, the Managing Director will have full end‑to‑end responsibility for the leadership, performance and strategic direction of the business. Key responsibilities include:
1. Setting and executing the long‑term strategy of the organisation
2. Full P&L ownership and oversight of sales, operations, finance and R&D
3. Leading a manufacturing operation, ensuring efficiency, quality, and on‑time delivery
4. Driving best practice, continuous improvement and Industry 4.0 principles across the business
5. Acting as a visible, customer‑facing leader with key accounts and partners
6. Oversight of governance, reporting, compliance, risk management and health & safety
7. Hiring, leading, and developing the leadership team and wider workforce
8. Ensuring the business has the structure, capability and culture to support future growth
This is a hands‑on Managing Director role, balancing strategic leadership with day‑to‑day operational control.
The Candidate
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded senior leader with:
9. Proven senior leadership experience within manufacturing or distribution
10. Strong commercial awareness and customer‑facing capability
11. A track record of driving sales growth and business performance in an established organisation
12. Experience leading manufacturing operations, including quality, health & safety and continuous improvement
13. Strong strategic planning and execution capability
14. A hands‑on leadership style, comfortable operating at both strategic and operational level
15. High levels of digital and IT literacy, with an understanding of automation, data‑led decision making and modern manufacturing technologies
Salary & Benefits
16. Base salary: £125,000
17. Bonus: Annual performance‑related bonus
