Job Purpose The Innovation Commercial Lead will oversee the commercial and contractual arrangements for parties interested in utilising the Deeside Centre for Innovation. The centre will provide testing services to projects from National Grid, other networks, academic institutions, and companies seeking to leverage its unique facilities to validate innovative ideas and methodologies. The role involves collaborating with teams across NGET and engaging external stakeholders to promote facility usage and service offerings, thereby maximising utilisation. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a robust commercial framework that accommodates a diverse customer base and optimises revenue generation. Ongoing marketing activities and effective management of customer relationships are essential to bolstering the centre9;s profile within the UK and globally. Close cooperation with financial, legal, and compliance departments is required to ensure the contractual framework delivers appropriate protection for both NGET and its customers.
What Youll Do
* Promotion and Branding The Innovation Commercial Lead is responsible for promoting and advertising the Deeside Centre for Innovation and its services to potential customers. This includes developing an effective and attractive brand identity for the facility to ensure it stands out in the marketplace and appeals to a diverse audience.
* Customer Acquisition and Opportunity Development Actively seek out new customers for the centre. Identify the specific requirements of prospective users and initiate development activities to explore and realise opportunities that address those needs.
* Sales Process and Relationship Management Manage new customer relationships and establish a structured sales process tailored to the facility. Identify business opportunities and maintain an active pipeline, and recognise and implement any necessary behavioural or process changes within the organisation to support commercial growth.
* Contractual Framework Development Develop and maintain a robust contractual framework for the centre. Collaborate with legal, financial, commercial, and customer teams to ensure the framework encourages site usage while securing sufficient revenue to support ongoing operations.
* Contractual Relationship and Dispute Management Manage contractual relationships with users of the site. Oversee the negotiation of commercial disputes and ensure all contractual engagements are conducted professionally and efficiently.
* Performance Metrics and Reporting Develop and maintain comprehensive metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) relating to commercial and contractual activities. Regular reporting on site utilisation and revenue generation is required to provide transparency and support decision-making.
* Financial Planning and Forecasting Work closely with finance and commercial teams to set revenue budgets for the facility and maintain accurate revenue forecasts throughout the year to meet targets.
About You
* Solid foundation in engineering with the ability to engage in credible and informed discussions with Engineers to understand customer opportunities and translate technical requirements for consideration by the ET team.
* Proven history of influencing senior stakeholders within a commercial framework; strong negotiation skills are essential.
* Experience managing multiple stakeholders and overseeing projects concurrently, with competence in contract management and maintaining contractual obligations.
* Understanding of regulatory considerations and the energy industry; familiarity with asset management, system design, and project delivery within the sector is desirable.
* A degree, or equivalent, in Business, Commercial, or STEM, or demonstrable experience.
* Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with proficiency in information technology.
What Youll Get
Salary A competitive salary between £54,000 – £60,000 dependent on capability.
