The business delivers full turnkey solutions across substation and grid connection projects, with a strong focus on solar and battery energy storage (BESS) developments.
Role
Design Engineer
Role summary
The Design Engineer will be working on electrical projects on behalf of the Company and will be involved with projects ranging from LV through to 132kV. It will involve working as part of a team to review Distribution Network Operator (DNO) Contestable Connection Offers and compiling contestable and private designs for grid connections ranging from LV up to and including 132kV. They will also be required to assist in the conceptual design of various types of energy projects, principally Solar Farms, Battery Energy Storage.
Responsibilities

* Design: The technical review of projects and DNO and National grid connection offers.
* Design: The design and conceptual design of both the grid connection and private network infrastructure from LV up to and including 132kV.
* Design: Overseeing the production of Main Connection and protection single line diagram design review.
* Design: Cable route designs review.
* Design: Switchgear selection and specification.
* Design: Transformer selection and specification.
* Design: CT and VT sizing studies.
* Design: Battery Charger sizing studies.
* Design: Multicore schedule, Multicore termination schedules.
* Design: Cable sizing studies.
* Design: Small Power and Lighting Design.
* Design: Substation Layout Design.
* The management of the design of projects on both the grid connection and private network infrastructure from LV up to and including 132kV.
* Managing Design Sub-Contractors.
* Follow all published guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures to ensure satisfactory delivery of work.
* Recommending/Attending training as required to maintain knowledge and application of systems and procedures.
* Support the design process of complex projects.
Operations
* Attend Site visits if required with construction team to ensure smooth design delivery.
* Support the operations team with site level queries that impact design.
* Arrange Design review meeting with the operation team to ensure they have had input to ensure practical buildability of the designs.
* Support the project delivery by assisting in regular POW updates with the relevant Project Managers.
* Ensure Construction designs are produced to support site activities and mobilisation dates.
Commercial
* Support procurement activities to ensure the correct specification of equipment is chosen.
* Ensure contract milestones are met through the Design process.
Qualifications and experience
* Essential criteria:
o Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
o AutoCAD experience.
o 3 years + Experience in a Contracting/Consulting.
o Sound numeracy skills.
o IT systems experience and competency.
o Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
o Full UK driving licence.
o Project Management Experience.
o HV/EHV experience.
o Experience working with IDNOs, DNOs or ICPs.
o Working to BSEN, IEC, IEEE & CENELEC Standards.
o Managing Drawing register and design submissions to the DNO/Client.
o Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project Programming Software).
o Excellent attention to detail with an eye for accuracy.
* Desirable criteria:
o Google Earth experience.
o Power system modelling.
o Master's degree (Power).
o Ability to create a design delivery programme.
o CEng.
o Previous experience using Procore Document Management tools.
