Hours
Full time: Monday – Friday 8am – 4.30pm. Overtime may occasionally be required.
About the role
As an Automotive Heavy Vehicle Technical Trainer, you will be responsible for training apprentices to the highest standards as they work towards industry accredited qualifications.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working in heavy vehicle maintenance and be able to demonstrate knowledge regarding the latest technology, including electrical diagnosis. Previous training experience is preferred but not required, as all training will be given to the right candidate.
All applicants must hold and have proof of a recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3 or equivalent and be occupationally competent, which must be demonstrated at interview.
Day‑to‑day duties
* Carrying out training and education in a safe manner, following health and safety, COSHH and other mandatory regulations
* Using appropriate training and education methods
* Preparing and using training aids where appropriate
* Assisting the Team Leader and Automotive Training Manager in maintaining discipline and ensuring all trainees comply with company policy
* Mapping progress, underpinning knowledge and completing awarding body documentation
* Assessing trainees’ knowledge, skills and behaviours according to standards set by awarding bodies and the Sector Skills Council
* Assisting the Team Leader and Curriculum Manager to further develop training and assessment processes and resources
* Ensuring training uses current methods and keeps up to date with technological developments and vocational CPD
* Providing welfare support and guidance to apprentices and employers
Essential skills
* Qualification Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
* English and Maths at Level 2 or equivalent
* Proven track record with electrical diagnosis and use of modern automotive technology
* Strong communication skills
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Enthusiasm and commitment
* Full UK driving licence, subject specialism
Desirable skills
* Teaching qualification (training provided if not)
* Recent English and Maths teaching experience (training provided if not)
* Experience working with apprentices or young people
* First aid
