Overview

Reporting Sonographer needed to join the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust team. You will work independently to acquire and interpret diagnostic ultrasound images and issue clinical reports to referring clinicians. The role includes acute and elective general ultrasound scans and obstetric work, with some weekend shifts.


Responsibilities

* Perform designated ultrasound scans to required departmental standards and follow departmental protocols.
* Provide a sonographer-led, diagnostic ultrasound imaging service for the Radiology department.
* Provide independent clinical opinion via the CRIS system on ultrasound examinations; seek senior colleague advice as required for patient care pathways.
* Provide specialist training, mentoring and supervision for trainee advanced practitioners in postgraduate clinical ultrasound education.
* Assist in training and supervise Ob/Gyn registrars, radiology registrars and student radiographers in required scanning techniques.
* Supervise and assist clerical staff, support workers and student radiographers; provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team.
* Assist the superintendent in the appraisal and selection of ultrasound equipment for the Trust.
* Participate in a 7-day service, including emergency obstetrics and gynaecology scans on bank holidays.


About Us

The Sonographer team includes Radiographer and Midwife Sonographers, providing around 30,000 examinations per year across 11 ultrasound rooms located in multiple sites. Services support Acute medical, surgical, DVT, paediatric, obstetric and gynaecology teams, GP, outpatient and inpatient care. The team also includes MSK specialists and other ultrasound services and is committed to weekend and bank holiday rotas.
