Strategic Sustainability Director
Location: Glasgow (hybrid / flexible)
Level: Senior leadership
A well-established sustainability and built environment consultancy is making a deliberate investment in growing its UK presence, with Scotland and Glasgow at the centre of that strategy.
As part of this growth, they are seeking a Strategic Sustainability Director to take a leading role in shaping, growing, and ultimately owning the sustainability offering.
This is not a delivery-only role.
It is a senior, commercially focused leadership position with genuine influence over strategy, people, and growth.
The Opportunity
* Lead and grow a sustainability business unit with full senior backing
* Play a key role in business development, client relationships, and market positioning
* Shape service lines, identify diversification opportunities, and drive long-term profitability
* Build, manage, and develop high-performing teams
* Act as a trusted advisor to clients, senior stakeholders, and the board
* You will work closely with Directors and the Managing Director, contributing directly to company-wide strategy, financial performance, and future direction.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Growth
* Drive lead generation and sales activity across sustainability and ESG services
* Develop and maintain strong client relationships
* Represent the business at industry events, networks, and professional forums
* Identify and pursue new market opportunities and partnerships
Commercial & Financial Leadership
* Take responsibility for financial performance, KPIs, and growth targets
* Support cashflow forecasting, invoicing, and commercial risk management
* Manage overheads, margins, and resourcing to ensure sustainable profitability
Leadership & Operations
* Lead teams and act as Project Lead on key commissions
* Support recruitment, performance management, and professional development
* Maintain high standards of quality, compliance, and governance across projects
Quality, Compliance & Governance
* Ensure projects meet internal quality, profitability, and regulatory standards
* Uphold ISO, Health & Safety, and internal systems compliance
* Report regularly to the Managing Director and Board
About You
* Operating at Director, Associate Director, or Practice Lead level
* Commercially minded, with a strong track record in winning work and growing services
* Comfortable managing people, budgets, and senior stakeholders
* Technically credible within sustainability, ESG, carbon, or climate-related services
* A natural leader who enjoys building teams and shaping strategy
Chartership or relevant professional membership is expected, along with a commitment to maintaining CPD.
