Chief Executive at YMCA Newcastle, Foster Panel Member
We have just celebrated 175 years making us one of the oldest youth work organisations in Newcastle. Today YMCA Newcastle works with children, young people and the community, from all backgrounds regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or culture.
We have a brilliant opportunity for you to join our fantastic supported housing service for young people as a Team Leader.
We are looking for a person who wants to be part of a passionate and person-centred team. We support 15 young people who are looked after by the local authority (leaving care/unaccompanied asylum seekers). We provide emotional, social and practical support to help them to develop independence and look forward to a brighter future. You will manage a small team of Support Workers and be a confident leader, with experience of supporting staff to provide quality and individualised support.
You will lead your team to work professionally with other local agencies, such as Ofsted, Children’s Services, health providers, legal services and other young people’s services to promote independence, education, employment and training opportunities so the young people can achieve the best possible outcomes in their life. Our own youth work team will also welcome the young people with a range of youth work activities, including sports.
We encourage and listen to young people to have a voice to help shape our services and ensure their needs are met. While the job can be challenging it is incredibly rewarding, just ask our team!
You will be working with our awesome housing support team who are passionate about helping and empowering young people to achieve their full potential and we give unconditional support.
Working Hours
We work flexibly in line with required shift patterns, including bank holidays and some weekend shifts. Our Team Leaders work on a 4 on 4 off, 12 hour rota.
About You
You will be passionate about engaging with young people and be motivated to help them make positive
changes to their lives. You will be able to hit the ground running and work on your own initiative.
You will have experience of working in a supported housing environment and ideally have a health and social care or housing qualification or be willing to work towards gaining a qualification.
You will have experience of line managing staff, and experience of monitoring and auditing support documentation, to ensure that it is of the highest quality.
Your positivity and enthusiasm will be important. Our team will support and nurture your development and there will be opportunities for additional training in areas that interest you. You will have good IT skills as we use cloud based monitoring, record digital videos with young people and use social media platforms.
You will have experience of supporting young people with, or have an awareness of all (or some of the following); safeguarding, trauma informed practice, confidentiality, risk assessment, sexual health, wellbeing/mental health, homelessness. Training will also be available, we drive continuous professional development.
You will be required to complete a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and registered on the DBS Update service..
