Job Summary:
• The Advanced Youth Offending Service Officer will manage a diverse caseload of youth justice cases, including both out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders, in accordance with National Standards and the HMIP Inspection Framework.
• Working within a Child First, Offender Second approach, the post holder will deliver high-quality, trauma-informed interventions that support children and young people to desist from offending and make positive life choices.
• The role requires strong partnership working, effective communication, and a commitment to equality, safeguarding, and evidence-based practice.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Manage a caseload of youth justice cases, ensuring compliance with National Standards and local policy.
• Undertake comprehensive assessments using AssetPlus, identifying risks, needs, and strengths to inform robust intervention plans.
• Prepare and present Pre-Sentence Reports, Stand-Down Reports, and Referral Order Panel Reports to the Courts and relevant panels.
• Deliver tailored interventions, both 1:1 and group-based, using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
• Engage effectively with children, young people, families, and multi-agency partners to achieve the best possible outcomes.
• Contribute to reducing re-offending, supporting engagement in education, employment, or training.
• Ensure that all work promotes equality of opportunity, anti-discriminatory practice, and safeguarding principles.
• Represent the Youth Justice Service in court and professional forums, demonstrating sound judgement and professional confidence.
• Maintain accurate, timely case records and reports in line with confidentiality and data protection requirements.
Skills/Experience:
• Proven experience in Youth Justice, Probation, or Children’s Social Care.
• Strong understanding of youth justice legislation, court processes, and national standards.
• Skilled in AssetPlus case management, assessment, and planning.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, restorative justice, and desistance theory.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to prepare clear and analytical reports for court.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate vulnerable young people with complex needs.
• Confident in multi-agency working, partnership building, and inter-professional communication.
• Commitment to safeguarding, diversity, and promoting positive change for young people.
• Strong organisational and time management skills, able to balance competing priorities effectively.
Additional Information:
• The closing date: 27/11/2025.
• Qualified Social Worker with current registration (SWE).
• Location: Station Road, Ilford, IG6 1NB (Hybrid working may be required).
• Hours: 36 hours per week (Monday–Friday).
