We are a leading, family-owned chemical business operating from multiple sites in the South West of the UK. Boasting continuous growth, we are now looking for a technically biased Operations and Engineering Director to formulate and execute operational strategies whilst leading the management of our chemical production.
BASIC SALARY: £80,000-£90,000 per annum
BENEFITS: Company Car / Car Allowance, 10% Contributory Pension, Medical Insurance, DIS, Bonus and Profit Share, 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
LOCATION: Bristol

JOB DESCRIPTION: As an Engineering and Operations Director, you will work onsite alongside the current director as part of our succession planning. You will collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Technical, and Regulatory teams to support efficient operations aligned with company goals. Reporting directly to the Board, you will be part of the senior management team, advising on operational, HSEQ, production, and manufacturing issues.
You will also:
* Develop and manage the operations budget for financial efficiency
* Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and industry regulations in collaboration with the Regulatory Team
* Lead and inspire a team of approximately 60 indirect reports, providing direction, training, coaching, and development
* Lead projects to improve operations, implement best practices, reduce waste, lower costs, and enhance productivity
* Participate actively in the senior management team
Candidate Profile: You should have senior management experience, preferably in the chemical sector, with roles such as Operations Manager, Factory Manager, or Site Manager. Exposure to DSEAR/COSHH/COMAH regulations is preferred. You should be passionate about developing teams, data-driven decision-making, and have managed chemical manufacturing sites with turnovers of circa £20-£50m. Experience working with outsourced providers and managing broad supply chains is highly desirable.
Ideal candidates may have held roles such as Operations Director, Engineering Director, or General Manager within the chemical, resins, adhesives, paints, inks, fertilisers, pesticides, coatings, lubricants, disinfectants, solvents, or surface protection industries.
