Professional Duties of a Teacher
* Exercise general professional duties
o If employed as a teacher under reasonable direction of principal
o If employed by board without assignment to one school, under reasonable direction of board and principal of any school
* Exercise particular duties as appointed by principal or board
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons
* Teaching according to pupils’ educational needs, setting and marking work
* Assessing, recording and reporting pupils’ development, progress and attainment
* Promoting progress and well‑being of pupils
* Providing advice and guidance to pupils on education, social matters and futures; maintaining records and reports
* Communicating with parents of pupils
* Cooperating with external bodies approved by authority and board
* Participating in meetings, curriculum and administrative meetings
* Providing oral and written assessments, reports, references
* Participating in staff development, reviewing teaching methods, attending professional training
* Advising principal and teachers on curriculum development, assessment, pastoral arrangements
* Maintaining discipline, order and safeguarding health and safety of pupils
* Participating in public examination arrangements and supervision
* Managing selection, appointment, development and coordination of other teachers; reviewing curriculum and pastoral functions
* Administrative tasks: ordering equipment, supervising support staff, attending assemblies, registering attendance, managing hours up to 1,265 per year as required
Qualifications and Experience
* Hold a teaching qualification recognized for grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland
* Hold an Honours degree 2:2 or higher in subject areas taught in LLW/PE
* Be qualified to teach LLW and/or PE to Key Stage 3 in a post‑primary school
* Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before appointment
* Experience promoting and developing LLW and/or PE through enrichment activities
* Leadership experience: managing staff, overseeing operations, effective communication and coordination across departments
* Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, Safeguarding and Child Protection policy, SEND Code of Practice, teaching strategies, IT tools, assessment methods
* Effective teaching and classroom management skills, inclusive learning environment
* Collaborative skills with pupils, colleagues, parents, community
* Team motivation
* Evidence of alignment with school values/ethos
* Desirable: Honours Degree 2:1 or above; at least one year teaching LLW/PE; ability to offer additional subject; assistance with extracurricular provision
