The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer to lead a large-scale data transformation project. This is a greenfield opportunity to design, build, and implement a robust data warehouse that will serve as the foundation for our future data-driven initiatives. You will be responsible for a comprehensive data migration, establishing a new data architecture, and creating the necessary pipelines to ensure our travel data is clean, accessible, and ready for analysis. Key Responsibilities
* Data Solution Architecture: Design and build a scalable and resilient data warehouse architecture from the ground up, tailored to the specific needs of the business.
* Data Migration: Plan and execute a large-scale data migration from existing systems to the new data warehouse, ensuring data integrity, security, and minimal disruption.
* ETL/ELT Development: Develop, test, and maintain robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) or ELT pipelines to ingest data from various sources into the data warehouse.
* Data Modelling: Implement effective data modelling techniques to structure and organise the data for efficient storage and retrieval, supporting business intelligence and analytics.
* Data Staging & Quality: Establish data staging areas and implement processes to ensure data quality, cleansing, and validation.
* Cloud Infrastructure: Utilise and manage cloud infrastructure to support the data warehouse and associated services (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure).
* Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with stakeholders, including Data Analysts, business users, and IT teams, to understand requirements, provide updates, and ensure the new data platform meets their needs.
* Technical Leadership: Serve as the subject matter expert on data warehousing, providing guidance and recommendations on best practices, tools, and technologies.
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Data Engineer, Data Architect, or in a similar role.
* Strong knowledge of data solution architecture principles and best practices.
* Extensive experience with ETL/ELT development techniques and tools.
* Expertise in data modelling (e.g., dimensional modelling, star schema).
* Proficiency in SQL for complex data manipulation and querying.
* Practical experience with data warehouse technologies (e.g., SQL Server, Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift,).
* Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., Azure, Google Cloud Platform or AWS).
* Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and their integration with data warehouses.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to technical challenges.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with scripting languages like Python for automation and data processing.
* Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
* Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
* Knowledge of the travel or cruise industry data landscape.
